Land Slide - River Sand and Rock Back-fill
We hand shoveled 2 full dump truck loads of river rock and sand into the derrumbe to back fill the gabion boxes. I am getting very strong at shoveling! We then planted the entire area with vetiver grass to further stabilize the slide.
You could use vetiver to stabilize these steeps slopes and prevent landslides. See http://www.vetiver.org/INR-%20Highway.pdf Photo number 3 of this series shows vetiver being planted on a fill slope. This is a good example of how not to plant vetiver - the result will be a failure. Vetiver must be planted close together as a hedgerow.
